CoHousing

Information Session

Sunday, Nov. 4th at 7:00 pm

First Unitarian Church of Hamilton,

170 Dundurn St. S

Are you interested in learning about cohousing and the

possibility of creating such a community in Hamilton?

Come to an information session about co-housing

 “Balancing community and personal privacy,

cohousing (a form of intentional community) is a

chance to create a modern village in an urban or rural

setting.  Residents own their own homes and can

gather in common areas to share meals and socialize.

modern life – everything from daycare to aging at

home is easier with the help of your neighbours.” *

*From the Cohousing Handbook, by Chris Hanson

 publishers Hartley & Marks

For more information, contact Doreen at

Victoria Park

The following initiatives in Victoria Park were

announced at the Strathcona Community

Council AGM last week.

Outdoor Gym

City Staff gave a presentation about installing an
outdoor gym in Victoria Park.  The residents at
the meeting provided feedback on what kind of
equipment and where in the park would be
preferable.

No decision on the type of equipment or the
location in the park has been made at this time.
Installation is tentatively planned for the spring
of 2013.

A copy of the staff presentation is available at

http://www.brianmchattie.ca/download.php?id=199

Neighbourhood Café

Unlike Locke Street in Kirkendall and Westdale

Village in Ainslie Wood Westdale, there is no

community gathering place for the Strathconca

neighbourhood.  With this in mind, Brian has

been working with the Hellenic Community to

establish a café in the Field House building,

located at the southeast corner of

King Street West and Strathcona Avenue North

in Victoria Park.

Council passed a motion  in July 2012, to

approve a license agreement between the City of

Hamilton  and St. Demetrious Church to use the

building as a non-profit café for two years.

The report is at

http://www.hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/

_v1_8_5__CS12027_PED12131.pdf.

Significant maintenance work has been

completed (new drywall, furnace replacement,

roof work, painting, lighting) and there are plans

to replace the windows and make the washrooms accessible from both the cafe and from outside.

The café is tentatively scheduled to open

sometime in November.
