What should

Strathcona’s Major Streets

Look Like?

Come provide us with your ideas on how to shape

the future of the Strathcona Neighbourhood!

Tuesday, June 26, 2012,

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

(presentation at 6:30 pm)

Scottish Rite, 4 Queen Street South

As part of the Strathcona Secondary Plan, the City of Hamilton is developing Urban Design Guidelines for the major streets within the Strathcona Neighbourhood. A meeting with the neighbourhood will provide an opportunity for the neighbourhood to help us:

• identify issues that should be considered through the Urban Design Guidelines;

• identify what (re)development along Main Street, King Street, Queen Street and York Boulevard should look like. This may include the location of buildings on a property, the height of buildings, and how new buildings will relate to the existing neighbourhoods.

Publicparticipation is a key component to the success of the Strathcona SecondaryPlan. Information collected at thisPICwill help City staff better understand how thecommunity would like new development along the major streets within Strathconato look in the future.

Interested persons can ask questions and discuss any related issues at the meeting and provide comments at any time during the study.

For more information on the Secondary plan, visit http://www.hamilton.ca/strathcona.

National Day of Action

Monday, June 18th at 1pm

55 Bay Street North, Hamilton

(outside Federal Building)

The federal government recently announced plans to cut important health care services for refugees as of June 30, 2012. Many refugees accepted to, and living in, Canada will no longer qualify for coverage for necessary medications such as insulin. Some refugee claimants will also be denied access to physicians unless their condition is deemed a threat to public health or safety. Among other health care services to be cut for some or all refugees are: prenatal care for pregnant women, well child care and access to mental health care.

On Monday, June 18th, 2012 in cities across the country, physicians, health care workers and community members opposed to cutting health services for refugees will be participating in a day of action.  For more information, please go tohttp://www.doctorsforrefugeecare.ca/show-your-support.html
